Brody is finishing up his second year of preschool. We recently has his IEP meeting. The ARC committee (representative from the district, teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, speech therapist, his teacher, and Jordan and I) met at the end of March. Brody was at 100% on all of his speech goals. I knew this coming into the meeting. I had heard from a little birdie that they were wanting to take speech away as well. I tried my hardest to pull out any hidden goal that he might need help with. Ultimately, I found that he is age appropriate (even higher than his peers in some areas). So, I was okay with them removing speech. We are going to give him the summer "off" of therapy, then start back with private speech therapy in the fall. This is an awesome thing, but also a scary move! While we know he can do it, he is still deaf and doesn't always pick up on sounds as quick. He is great at self correcting lately though! I know he will be fine, but the Mama Bear in me still has a hard time with letting a therapy go that we've had for 4 years! He is going to keep his teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing for now. He is still working on socialization skills. We have seen such a huge improvement since Christmas break! He will go up to other kids on the playgrounds now and talk to them. He even joins in with the games they are already playing! It makes my heart happy!
Brody, Ella Jo, and I went to his spring dance. It was so much fun! It was great to see him with his friends!
We had an awesome spring break this year. As a family, we took the first weekend and went to Indianapolis. It's a great kid friendly city! We will definitely be going back again.
We went to the Children's Museum on Saturday. If you go, make sure you check the calendar...it was a member's special day, so it was PACKED! There are three floors with all different types of exhibits. Brody loved the space exhibit. You get to walk through a mock space station.

They had a circus area (I'm pretty sure this is a traveling set.). Brody loved it, but when they had actual performers to pop out of the cannon, he decided it would be too loud and refused to take off the processors (where he wouldn't be able to hear it), so we left and missed that part.
There were other smaller exhibits. One had scuba gear to try on. They also had an Indy car to sit in!
His (and Ella Jo's) favorite part was in the 6 and under area. He went around with Jordan while I had Ella in their super cool nursing room and the toddler area. Brody loved climbing up to the boat (something he would have been scared of even 6 months ago)!
They also had a lot of high school groups presenting their robots on each floor. The kids got to try them too! In the video, you can see that I'm talking into something. That is his MiniMic. It is a digital feed that goes straight to his processors. It helps him hear better in noisy situations. He loves it!
Saturday night, we went to Pizza King. It is just your everyday pizza place, but they have a train that brings the drinks to your table. Brody thought it was the coolest concept ever. He asks pretty much daily to go back!
Sunday, we went to the Indianapolis Zoo. It is a smaller zoo, but it is almost all pretty much updated. And...they have a really cool dolphin show.
Waiting for the dolphin shoe to start...Ella Jo passes out shortly after this and slept through the entire show! |
They had a really cool (and big) snake exhibit! |
The rest of the week, we spent the three of us around Kentucky (Jordan had to go back to work :( ). Brody went to the dentist for the first time! He did awesome!!
We went to the Louisville zoo and met up with my friends from work and their children.
We went to our favorite park (Beckley Creek Park in Louisville). Brody was amazing me with how he was making friends! We went on a little hike with one little boy too.

Hope everyone had a great Easter! We sure did!
